Yizkor Books
As memorials to Jewish communities destroyed in the Holocaust Yizkor
Books are indispensable sources of information regarding Jewish
communities in Eastern and Central Europe. The majority of these
books often by former residents were written in Hebrew or Yiddish,
occasionally with an English summary. Thanks to the ongoing support
of Mr. and Mrs. David Lewis and of the Catherine Lewis Foundation
the Library holds a collection more than 850 Yizkor Books, the largest
unified and open-access collection of this literature in Europe.
See catalogue YIZKOR.
The collection is included in the Yizkor Book Project (www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/database.html),
which provides a Shtetl Seeker/Town search (www.jewishgen.org/shtetlseeker).
