PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS COURSE
We are happy to announce that Dr Diana Matut will be teaching a new music course in May 2023.
The Third Space: Interactions of Jewish and Black Music Cultures
Mondays, 17:00-18:00 UK Time, Online via Zoom
For centuries, music was a space that created ties and companionship as well as estrangement and rifts between the Black and Jewish communities worldwide. Interaction and transferal happened on many levels, be it through mutual influences in styles, sounds and repertoires or through performers, producers and composers who worked for and in both communities.
This class will explore the history of Jewish and Black interaction in music, music making and the music industry – an entanglement which shaped and formed the musical cultures of various communities.
The first day of class for this course will be Monday, 15th May 2023 (Week 4) and the class will continue until Monday, 3rd July 2023 (Week 11).
