Object 16. Members of the Oxford Jewish Congregation signing the chirograph for the reception of two Torah scrolls from the Canterbury Jewish Congregation

Description:

The Canterbury Jewish Congregation ceased to exist, and thus entrusted the Oxford congregation with the care of the two scrolls until such time as the Canterbury Jewish congregation would be re-established. The event followed the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Adolf Neubauer the eminent scholar and the sub-librarian of the Bodleian Library. The Centenary was organized by Herbert Loewe and was held on 21 June 1931.
