Description:

James and his wife Emma are at the centre of this photograph. This was taken at the summer camp run annually for the Oxford and St. George’s Jewish Youth Club founded and run by James’ daughter and son-in-law, Rose Louise and Basil Henriques. The club was established in 1914 and Rose Louise ran a girls' group from 1915. The groups were for Jewish children in the East End, who lived in often densely populated and deprived homes, their families often migrants from Russia and Poland.
